"Winter"

February 1st. 51 degrees and sunny, with a slight breeze from the south. The grass is green, squirrels are frolicking about (there's a four-squirrel chase going on at the moment), and I am confused to no end. I'm sitting on a bench in a garden I just discovered and everything is positively spring-like except for the leafless trees. And the fact that it's February. In New England.
What is happening. For serious.

Supernerd

Supernerd status is back. I love being back at college, I enjoy my classes, and find my assigned readings to be fascinating and wonderful. It took serious willpower not to sign up for too many classes, but I've successfully limited myself to four courses and one research position, so my workload is infinitely more manageable than my insane six-course schedule last semester. I'm back to feeling excited about everything I'm doing and I absolutely refuse to feel stressed this semester. Last semester filled my stress-quota for a good long while, so I'm just going to do without for a bit. Excellent plan, yes? Yes.

Everything is looking wonderful :)

Christmas Eve & Winter Activities

Christmas Eve is generally a pretty good day. Good food, candles, a tree in the living room, shiny packages with nice things you may or may not have strongly hinted at your parents you wanted... these are pretty nice things. So today was good :) I finally found a proper veggie substitute for the steak dinner my family always has (seitan. om nom.), we had lovely French chocolate cake, I picked out the majority of my gifts (I was in dire need of new combat boots and a fancy blazer with elbow patches), and the presents I bought for my brothers were well-received - I got one a wooden model airplane, another a vintage Canadian Artillery blazer, and another a chess set. So overall, I'd declare this day a success. Except for the almost complete lack of snow. For shame. Winter does not seemed to have properly happened yet, which is rather disappointing as I'd hoped to go skiing while I was here. Alas.

Other things to do while here, as skiing does not seem to be an option:

  • sew
  • guitar
  • pottery
  • horseback-ride
  • see lovely human beings
  • read wonderful books
  • take advantage of Netflix
  • made a YouTube video. I promise.
  • look forward to Florida! (I am massively excited for Harry Potter World. I think I can pretty much die happy after seeing Hogwarts and Hogsmeade. What can I say, I'm not hard to please.)
  • look forward to going back to my own room - it's awfully weird being in what used to be my room in my parents' house and living out of a suitcase. For serious.
For those of you who I get to see now, yayayayay! I missed you loads :) And for those of you who are elsewhere, I miss you now <3

Apologies

Apologies for being an awful friend this semester. I realize that I haven't had any time to talk with, call, text, Skype, or hang out with anyone, and I'm terribly sorry about that.
I've learned not to give myself too much work and too little time with the people that make me happy. Next semester will be better, I promise :)
Not to mention, I get to see some of you lovely people in less than 2 weeks, which is going to be wonderful :D
And for those of you that I'm leaving in 2 weeks, well, I most definitely won't be the least bit busy and will have plenty of time to pester your via cyberspace since I won't be able to do so irl.

- pumpkin pie
- too much eating
- embarrassing family

College Thanksgiving:
- apple marzipan cake
- clementines
- apples
- sketchy microwave food
- canned cranberries
- lukewarm hot chocolate in America mugs
- stolen cutlery
- "his main fault was not being Miranda Priestly"
- ridiculous friends

punkgirlproblems

Here is a small ranty post.

See, I have this problem. We're going to file this under #punkgirlproblems, because I feel that this really only happens when you look like this.
Alas.
What, then, is this problem? Well, you see, when you decide to adopt this as your particular aesthetic, people tend to make one of two assumptions:
a) You are a lesbian.
or
b) You will be receptive to the attempts made by boys who consider themselves vaguely "different" or "alternative" in any way to hit on you.

Dear world, these assumptions are both incorrect. No, seriously.

You see this guy?
That would my boyfriend. Yes, boyfriend. And no, he hasn't got a various facial piercings and he doesn't brood over poetry. He's a ridiculously tall person who likes hugs and makes me laugh.

Now, if you don't mind, I'm going to carry on not being particularly clichéd. Life's much more fun that way.

Advice for any other crazies out there

When you're in college, don't ever take six classes. Seriously. Worst idea ever.
Usually, you get to choose 2 out of: grades, social life, sleep.
When you take 6 classes, you choose one.
Grades.
